Baseball Season Is Back… So Are Broken Windshields
It’s a Saturday in Central Texas.
Kids are playing.
Parents are cheering.
Then you hear it… That sweet sound of the ball hitting the bat in just the right spot. The crowd is cheering, the parents are overly excited, and then you hear a second crack from the parking lot. The baseball just found a windshield.
So who actually pays for it?
Most people assume someone else will.
The league.
The parents.
Whoever hit the ball.
In most cases, it falls on the vehicle owner.
Your auto policy usually handles it
If you carry comprehensive coverage, this is exactly what it’s there for.
Falling objects.
Storm damage.
Random accidents like this.
Your policy typically pays for the repair or replacement.
You just cover your deductible.
Quick example:
- $1,000 deductible
- $900 windshield
You’re paying the full bill.
- $1,000 deductible
- $1,500 windshield
You pay $1,000. Insurance covers the rest.
That’s why knowing your deductible matters.
What about the league?
Some leagues carry insurance.
But it usually only applies if something was set up wrong.
Missing nets.
Unsafe field layout.
A normal foul ball or home run?
That’s part of the game.
Can you go after the parents?
It’s possible.
But it’s rare that they are found responsible.
Most people aren’t trying to turn a kids game into a legal situation over a cracked windshield.
Around here, it happens more than you think
Between Little League, school games, and weekend tournaments, there are a lot of vehicles damaged around here.
Most days, nothing happens.
Some days, someone walks back to their car and sees glass.
What you should check today
Take 2 minutes and look at your policy:
- Do you have comprehensive coverage?
- What’s your deductible?
- Would you be okay paying that out of pocket?
I’ve seen deductibles anywhere from $500 to $2,000+.
That’s a big difference when something small like this happens.
Simple takeaway
Parking next to a field feels harmless.
Until it isn’t.
A small tweak to your coverage can save you a lot of frustration later.
